Viering van het nieuwe maanjaar - het jaar van de Draak
Tết is a New Year celebration based on the Lunar calendar which is generally one month behind the conventional Solar one. This year, it falls on January 23 rd and is the Year of the Dragon. Tết is festively celebrated throughout Vietnam, Korea and China. Many traditional activities, stories and folklore have been woven into the fabric of Tết. At EIAB, we shall experience and enjoy Tết in both the old and new ways. Immersed in the practice of mindfulness, we shall together celebrate Tết in a joyful, lighthearted and mindful way.
You are invited to come participate in our preparations for Tet. The brothers and sisters of the Institute will prepare Earth Cakes, a sticky rice specialty that we eat only on the Lunar New Year. We will decorate and continue the New Year’s preparations. You are welcome to visit during our celebrations from sunday 22 to 29th. There will also be the opportunity to visit the monks and nuns in their own rooms on Saturday and Sunday—which only happens once a year. You can participate in the Tale of Kieu Oracle reading, a Plum Village Tet tradition. Brothers and sisters will interpret the meaning of a few lines of poetry taken from this classical Vietnamese poem, to help inspire your practice for this New Lunar Year.

Applied Ethics: An exploration of Mindful Education
with Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh
You are cordially invited to an international retreat and symposium with beloved Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh at the American School of London. It will take place from March 30 - April 2, 2012; we kindly ask you to save the date!
Key stakeholders from all levels of the education system - teachers, administrators and policy makers - are invited to attend to offer diverse perspectives in a joyful atmosphere. During this non-residential event, we will embark on a learning journey of self-care and reflective dialogue to inspire innovative action in education systems around the world.
The event offers a unique opportunity to practice mindfulness with and learn from internationally respected peace activist and teacher Thich Nhat Hanh. Participants will learn practical tools and mindful methods for educators, including how to form and sustain mindful communities in schools, universities, and at home. Through silence, self-care and awareness of body and mind, we hope to inspire clear thinking and action. We will explore first-hand the challenges and opportunities in education across nations, and ways we can work together to address them.
Space is limited, and preference will be given to those registering as teams from various parts of international education systems (for example, a team of Teacher/ Head of School/ Department of Education Official or similar combinations).

21-Dagen retraite
In the beautiful setting of Plum Village, from the 1st until the 21st of June 2012, with Thich Nhat Hanh and the Plum Village Sangha, scientists and Buddhists will practice sitting together, walking together, and sharing their experience and insight with each other. The practices of mindfulness and concentration can help scientists to be better scientists and in this way, Buddhism can act as a source of inspiration, suggesting directions for future investigation and discovery. Conversely, we will explore how insights from science can be useful, not only to develop technology and improve our material comfort, but to reduce the suffering of individuals, families, and society. This retreat will bring a lot of joy and confidence in both traditions as we find out that good science and good Buddhism can be much and do much for the wellbeing of the world.
